Training School
What is a training school?
An English training school in China is much like an after school sports or music program. Our students are young children, mostly between the ages of 3 and 10. They come to our school twice a week for a one hour lesson.

The Teaching
Our focus at ICC is on getting children to love learning English. We play games with them, sing songs, and encourage them to break out of their shells. We have freedom in the classroom and personal support. In every class, there is a Chinese teaching assistant who helps with translation and relaying the students' progress to their parents. There are six students in each class, which allows us to pay special attention to each child.
Our Books
We have five levels of interactive books, designed by our own teachers. Each level features vocabulary, reading, and grammar. These books are used occasionally in class, but mainly as a tool for reviewing the lessons at home. The books feature a computer chip inside each page, which allows the students to listen to each word as they look at the picture.

The Schedule
The busiest hours of a training school are week day evenings and weekends. We pride ourselves on giving teachers one weekend day off, which is unusual for training schools in China. Our typical schedule is four weekdays 2 pm - 9 pm and one weekend day 9 am until 6 pm.
Adult Travel English
This class is designed for adults who would like to improve their English. Their level varies widely, from those who wish to iron out kinks in their already fluent English, to those who are just starting out. The biggest hurdle in teaching adults is making them feel confident in speaking. Our adult book focuses on English one would need when traveling, because many of our students like to travel abroad. However, we've found that to break away from the books with a good game can be just as helpful for adults as it is for children!
Kindergarten
Kindergarten classes are similar to classes in a training school in many ways. The primary focus is always that the kids have fun and enjoy learning English. The lessons take place during school hours. Kindergartens who would like to offer an English class to their students hire ICC teachers to teach up to five days per week in their school. The classes generally range from thirty minutes to an hour, depending on the amount of time a specific kindergarten has allotted. For kindergarten classes, we use a separate set of books, which are geared more towards classwork and less towards practicing at home. Although we hope that all of our students will learn well, the only thing expected of our teachers is that each students comes away from the class happy.
